Officials report progress following Baltimore bridge collapse It's been almost five weeks since the fatal Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore. Authorities said more than 170 vessels have transited the area through four alternate channels — including five ships waiting since March 26 to leave the port. Additionally, more than 3,000 tons of debris have been removed out of about 50,000 tons overall.
NTSB: Dredger collapse traced to undetected flooding The capsizing of the dredging vessel WB Wood in the Mississippi River last year stemmed from undetected flooding from a through pipe missing a check valve, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The incident highlighted the need for crews to regularly check tanks and voids to identify potential hull integrity issues, the agency said.
Coast Guard seeks applicants for towing safety panel The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking applicants for 18 vacancies on the National Towing Safety Advisory Committee. Candidates have until June 10 to apply for the body, which advises the federal government on towing safety and coastal and inland navigation.

Philly Shipyard and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries are exploring a partnership focused on future U.S. government ships and maintenance and repair work. The two parties, which worked together on tanker projects between 2005 and 2017, signed a new memo of understanding on April 12.
U.S. plans up to 12 offshore wind auctions through 2028
U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland has announced a new five-year offshore wind leasing schedule that includes up to 12 offshore wind energy lease auctions through 2028. The plan contemplates four sales in 2024 followed by eight more between 2025-2028, potentially creating new opportunities for maritime industries that support offshore wind.
