NYK to capture emissions from car carriers in California
NYK has concluded an agreement with STAX Engineering, a U.S. company specializing in maritime emissions capture and control, to use its technology to recover exhaust gases from ships. NYK will recover exhaust emissions at berth from NYK-operated car carriers calling at ports in California starting in January 2025.

Coast Guard won't enforce new CARB emissions rule

The U.S. Coast Guard says it will not enforce a new California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulation pertaining to commercial harbor craft, citing safety concerns, The Center Square reported. The Coast Guard and business organizations oppose CARB's requirement that owners and operators of commercial harbor craft install diesel particulate filters (DPFs), which have been linked to a number of fires.

Tug's speed, hydrodynamic forces led to Texas collision
A tugboat maneuvering near a transiting tanker in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel was drawn in toward the tanker, leading to a collision, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. The tugboat Mark E. Kuebler and the tanker Nisalah collided in the channel near Ingleside, Tx., on January 22, 2023.

BRIX Marine launches new survey catamaran

BRIX Marine has launched its latest 3011-CTC survey boat, Lugudi Barana. The 30-foot BRIX Marine hull features 5086 alloy aluminum hull skins, 5052 alloy aluminum interior transverse frames, and longitudinal T-bars, "ensuring reliability even in challenging conditions," the company said.

Port NOLA container-on-barge service sets new record

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) has marked 20,500 container moves by barge in 2023, the highest number of moves since starting the service in 2016 in cooperation with the Port of Greater Baton Rouge and the Ingram Marine Group.
