Commercial Dungeness Crab Fishery Begins Feb. 1 North of Cape Falcon, Ore. Oregon's Department of Fish and Wildlife has announced the Feb. 1 opener of a commercial Dungeness crab fishing period from Cape Falcon to Klipsan Beach, Wash.
Norton Sound Winter Red King Crab Fishery Begins Feb. 1 Although the allowable harvest is yet to be determined, the commercial red king crab fishery in Alaska's Norton Sound is set to begin on Feb. 1, with a guideline harvest level (GHL) similar to last year's winter fishery.

Supporters of the commercial fishing industry received some good news in late 2023 when the federal legislation known as H.R. 4618 –commonly called the Supporting Commercial Fishing in Port Infrastructure Projects Act – passed both the House and Senate as part of the Maritime Administration Reauthorization Act.
